Marked By a Yes
It was 2008 at a midweek service and I was visiting my sister’s church for Bible study. During praise and worship, I felt a gentle tap on my shoulder. A woman leaned in and asked, “Are you ready to give your life to the Lord?”. I said “yes.” That quiet yes changed everything. I rededicated my life to God and began again with Him.
Earlier this year, seventeen years later, I saw a woman in the food store and my heart wondered if it was her, but I did not go over. Just last week Tuesday, I saw the same woman at the gym. In that moment the Holy Spirit said, It is her. Go and tell her. I walked up and said hello. I told her my name and said, “You asked me one question back in 2008 that changed my life. You led me back to the Lord. Thank you for your obedience that night. From that day to now, I have been walking with the Lord. You helped me begin again and I am forever grateful.”
She was so surprised and said, “Oh my God. I am so happy you told me this. You have no idea how much this blesses me. I am still working for the Lord and sometimes I wonder if it is making a difference.” I said, “Oh yes, it is. I am living proof.” We hugged, exchanged numbers, and promised to stay in touch. I walked away with a deep reminder that gratitude truly begins with God.
Scripture MeditationBless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits. ~Psalm 103:2
Heart TruthsWhen I pause to think about gratitude, I begin here. God met me in worship and that moment marked the real beginning of my story with Him. I am thankful that He used someone’s obedience to draw me back to His heart. When I look back on that night and everything that has unfolded since, I am overwhelmed by His faithfulness. My life is better because He is in it.
✝ He has kept me.
✝ He has preserved me.
✝ He has made a way time and time again.
✝ He continues to show up in both the little and the big things.
That yes in 2008 still shapes how I show up today as a wife, a mom, a friend, a leader, and a woman of faith who loves her people well because she is held by God.
The truth is that gratitude begins with God. It is the quiet yes that opens your heart to His presence and keeps you close to His voice. Before you thank anyone else, pause and remember the moment He called your name and you answered.
Gratitude is how we stay near. We remember His mercy. We acknowledge His guidance. We receive our daily bread with a trusting heart. Gratitude trains our eyes to see Him in both the small and the significant. It steadies the soul when answers feel slow and it teaches us to be content in every season.
When we remember who brought us through, we soften toward the people we love.
✅ Gratitude makes patience possible in marriage.
✅ Gratitude keeps tenderness alive with our children.
✅ Gratitude helps us steward our friendships with care, lead our teams with humility, and serve in ministry with joy.
Loving Well in ActionAs we begin this month together, remember that because we know God, we can love from a deeper place, the place where love begins.
Start with God, then let it spill into how you show up for your people. Keep it simple and sacred this week.
1. Reflect
Set aside quiet time to sit in God’s presence. Think on the ways He has been faithful through the years in answered prayers, in protection, and even in moments that did not make sense at the time.
2. Record
Write three recent ways you have seen His hand in your life. Speak each one out loud and thank Him by name.
3. Remember
Choose one verse about God’s faithfulness and carry it with you. Repeat it as often as you need to.
This month, choose to pause and reflect on the goodness of God. Choose contentment in every season. Choose to give thanks for what He does and even for what He withholds, trusting that He is working all things together for your good.
Let gratitude lead you through the week and watch how love grows in the places that matter most.
Here is to loving well together.💕
