Beginning Again With God

January is known for new beginnings, but this year I am approaching it differently. Instead of rushing into plans or setting spiritual goals that feel heavy, I am choosing to begin again with God. I am slowing down on purpose, returning to the basics of my faith, and resetting my relationship with Him before I try to reset anything else in my life.

I have learned that when I try to improve everything else without first tending to my relationship with God, I end up feeling scattered and tired. So this January, my focus is simple. I am starting with God.

As we begin this month at LoveWell, that personal decision shapes our first focus. Before we talk about loving well in marriage, motherhood, or meaningful relationships, we are starting with faith. Not as a resolution to perfect, but as a relationship to return to.

Before you continue reading, pause for a moment. Take a breath and honestly consider where you are with God today. Not where you think you should be. Not where you were last year. Just where you are right now.

There is no pressure here, only awareness.

Faith is the foundation of everything else we steward. Our marriages, our motherhood, our friendships, our work, and our calling all flow from the posture of our hearts toward God. When that relationship feels distant or neglected, it often shows up in every other area of life.

For many of us, beginning again with God feels like going back to the basics. Reading the Word. Praying consistently. Sitting quietly in His presence. These are not small or immature practices. They are the rhythms that keep us rooted.

Everything begins with God.

When we strengthen our relationship with Him, the other areas of our lives begin to align. Our love becomes steadier. Our decisions become clearer. Our hearts become more guarded and more grounded.

Scripture Reflection

Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. ~ Matthew 6:33

This verse reminds us of order. It does not tell us to fix everything else and then invite God into what remains. It invites us to seek Him first and trust that everything else will find its proper place.

Heart Truths

Beginning again with God does not require perfection. It requires presence.

You do not have to make up for last year. You do not have to perform your faith or prove your devotion. God meets you exactly where you are and invites you to come closer as you are.

Faith is not built in grand moments. It is formed in small, consistent acts of returning. Each prayer, each quiet moment and each honest conversation with God matters.

LoveWell begins here.

This is your Love Note

If you are starting this year feeling unsure about your faith or disappointed in yourself for what you did not do last year, I want you to hear this clearly. You are still invited to begin again.

You do not have to have it all figured out to return to God. You only have to be willing. Release the pressure to do faith perfectly this year and allow your relationship with God to be rooted in closeness instead of comparison.

Loving Well In Action

This week, choose one simple way to return to God.

  1. Release last year by letting go of what you did not do and giving yourself grace.

  2. Restart one day at a time by making intentional space for God, even if it is brief.

  3. Commit to one daily habit that strengthens your walk, whether that is prayer, reading Scripture, or quiet reflection.

LoveNote Challenge
Finish With Intention

New beginnings do not require a perfect plan. They require a willing heart.

As you step into this new year, begin again with God. Let that relationship be the root from which everything else grows. When you love God well, you are better equipped to love everyone else well.

This is where LoveWell begins.
